We are looking for a Technical Services Lighting Designer who will grow at our Mississauga, ON corporate office. This person could also work from home in the greater Ontario market.

This position will use their knowledge and expertise to provide customers with high quality, energy efficient lighting designs to meet all of their horticultural needs.

In this role you will:

  • Help manage and develop lighting plan layouts and designs with recommendations per customer request.
  • Provide direct technical support to HGC sales managers, distributors and growers through the development of top-notch lighting designs.
  • Train internal personnel and customer on the use of Hawthorne product to achieve fantastic results.
  • Drive or assist in developing relevant sales literature and technical information tailored to the end user of the information (grower, sales, distributor).
  • Coordinate complaint investigations or product issues to ensure an accurate assessment and timely resolution.
  • Continually explore new ways to communicate seamlessly with growers / sales to provide amazing technical support.
  • Liaise with R&D to explore / develop new uses of current products and/or recommendations to test new technologies to win customers.

The perfect person will have:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Electrical Engineering or Horticulture focused program.
  • Minimum 3 years of experience in lighting or controlled environment agriculture (CEA), greenhouse, hydroponics or ornamental nursery.
  • Very strong skill in working with computer lighting design software (DIALux and AGi32)​
  • A strong working knowledge of lighting technologies for horticultural applications, environmental controls for greenhouse, hydroponic, or indoor environments and electrical circuits.
  • Knowledge of and appreciation of the effect of light on plant growth.
  • Strong appreciation for the responsibilities of sales associates/distributors to help ensure success.
