We’re looking for a Procurement Manager to join our Hawthorne Hardware Category team in Vancouver, WA!

If you enjoy a fast-paced, high energy manufacturing environment then you will fit in well as a Procurement Manager for Scotts Miracle-Gro.  On a day-to-day basis you will have responsibility for strategic procurement and category/supplier management to drive savings and change within our business.

NOTE: This role requires more than 50% travel including international destinations.

What you’ll do in this role: 

  • Create and implement comprehensive procurement strategies for category materials covering market trends, supply assurance, quality improvement, supplier development, sustainability, and financial & supply risk mitigation

  • Effectively manage relationships with suppliers by implementing the vendor score card process

  • Develop and implement cost savings projects and financial forecasting

  • Negotiate and execute contractual agreements in accordance to established company policies and procedures

  • Develop new vendor relationships and identify new products

  • Ensure compliance related process and procedures are uncompromised

  • Develop disruption mapping and mitigation strategies

  • Own and maintain all category supplier relationships

  • Lead supplier selection and development process while working with cross-functional teams like R&D, Marketing, and Quality etc. to develop innovative products

  • Ensure suppliers are following Hawthorne sustainability guidelines and implementing required actions

  • Lead evaluation of supplier capabilities, cost structure, risks, and partnership potential to determine supply base

  • Report and maintain vendor rebate policies or promotional discounts

  • Travel approximately 50% (Domestic & International)  

What you’ll need to be successful:

  • Bachelor’s degree focused in Supply Chain Management, Packaging, Procurement, Accounting/Finance, Economics, or Business Administration. Master’s degree preferred

  • Minimum 5 years’ experience in a people leadership position within Procurement, Sourcing or Purchasing

  • Ability to coordinate and organize numerous material requirements for multiple plants and contract manufacturing facilities simultaneously, while effectively sourcing suppliers and negotiating contracts for targeted materials

  • Ability to effectively navigate in a regulated industry

  • Knowledge of technical language of R&D (and often the vendors) and the business language of the Brands and Purchasing

  • Strong computer skills (SAP R/3, SAP/PLM, MS office programs)

  • Able to effectively communicate with multiple departments within the company

  • Assertive self-starter with an Entrepreneurial spirit

  • Creative/Out-of-box thinking and ability to successfully sell ideas in a large organization

  • Ability to succeed in a competitive, fast-paced environment

  • Consumer Products or Retail experience a plus
