We are looking for a Manufacturing Engineer to join our Manufacturing team who will grow at our Hawthorne Gardening headquarters office in Vancouver, WA. This role will focus on optimizing processes and developing a world-class, engineered operation in our manufacturing spaces.

What you'll do in this role:

  • Develop and drive a culture of operational excellence through engineered solutions
  • Execute time and motion studies on manufacturing activities
  • Partner with key stakeholders to facilitate process engineering and optimization, including Manufacturing site leaders, Engineering management, Quality and Compliance, Supply Chain, and R&D
  • Create and maintain standard operating procedures and standard work instructions for manufacturing processes
  • Develop and provide input on new and existing facility layouts, processing methods, and machinery
  • In partnership with engineering management, identify, catalogue, and estimate financial impacts of continuous improvement opportunities
  • Update and manage process maturity models for each manufacturing location
  • Facilitate transformative changes in manufacturing areas through capital justification and acquisition
  • Be a leader of Lean/SS implementation, including organizing Kaizen events, VSM, and variability reduction
  • Work with ERP processes and personnel to drive actionable process metrology, data generation, and KPIs
  • Support broad engineering initiatives in Lean/Six Sigma, value engineering, 5S, and design-to-value
  • Partner with EHS, providing input on process safety reviews through knowledge of ergonomics and human factors
  • Provide technical manufacturing perspectives in product R&D and Quality initiatives

What you'll need to be successful:

  • B.S. in a relevant engineering discipline from an ABET-accredited program (Manufacturing Engineering, Industrial Engineering, or Mechanical Engineering preferred)
  • Relevant experience, 3-5 years preferred but not required
  • Well-rounded, well-developed skill set comprising:
    • Engineering communication
    • Relevant knowledge of programming languages and software (Python, R, CAD, simulation, ERP/SAP/MES systems, advanced Excel solutions, optimization tools)
    • Deep understanding of scientific principles and systems thinking
    • Strong foundation in mathematics and statistics
    • Being a quick study of manufacturing processes and environments
    • Robust understanding of Lean/SS toolset
    • Project management tools and best practices
  • Professional qualities, including thought leadership, ownership mentality, coalition building, presentation skills, and self-starting tendencies
