We are looking for a Technical Service Manager who will join our Hawthorne team in the Midwest / Southeast US.

The Technical Services Manager is responsible for contributing to the growth and profitability of the Hawthorne Gardening Company.  This will be accomplished by serving as Hawthorne’s primary technical advocate for products and related services in their respective territory.

Technical service will include but not limited to the following activities: 1) Direct technical sales support to HGC sales territory managers and customers, 2) Technical training of sales territory managers, distributors and growers, 3) Implement, track and report on grower-based trials to gain sales, 4) Develop technical sales literature or learning aids, 5) Serve as a liaison to internal and external subject matter experts, 6) Develop competitive intelligence - assess and evaluate competitive products and 7) Troubleshoot field product performance issues and assist with complaint resolution.

What you’ll do in this role:

  • Help drive sales.  Work with our sales people and customers to help drive sales Hawthorne products into the marketplace
  • Amazing technical service.  Provide assistance to sales and our customers to help our customers be successful through using our products and help customers overcome problems or issues should they arise.
  • Communication.  Communicate through verbal, visual or written means on how to use our products seamlessly and successfully.
  • Drive commercialization.  Help drive commercialization of new or existing products through applied cultivator product trials
  • Advocate.  Be a technical advocate and ambassador for Hawthorne Products in the marketplace. Understand how Hawthorne products fare in the competitive world.
  •  Expertise. Serve as an internal and external subject matter expert.  We’re looking for all to be generalists but also experts in necessary subjects.

What you’ll need to be successful:

  • Passionate about growing plants.
  • Technically and scientifically sound.  Our approach is based on scientific and horticultural facts and principles
  • Must be able to take complex subject matter or situations and simplify them for the intended audience, no matter who it may be, in a respectful way.
  • Excellent communication skills.  Be able to communicate precisely and succinctly.
  • Be able to work independently and collaboratively in groups. Must be able to think out of the box frequently and be comfortable when there are no predetermined rules.
  • Education required is a BS Degree in agricultural or biological science(or advance degree) preferred.  A minimum of 3-5 years of experience in a horticultural related field, ideally using controlled environment agricultural (CEA), hydroponic or greenhouse systems of production.
