We are looking for a Category Manager, Lighting Division who will grow at our Vancouver, WA corporate office.

As the Lighting Division Category Manager your job is to co-manage and oversee the development of new products. This will include existing products currently in the pipeline as well as new initiatives and new technology such as LED, plasma, etc.

In this role you will:

  • Manage and oversee product improvement initiatives in the form of lighting reflectors, remote ballasts and complete fixtures. May be HID, fluorescent or LED.
  • Participate in and provide direction to Sourcing Team on new product opportunities from worldwide sources for the horticulture division.
  • Work with vendors and co-workers to efficiently bring new products to market.
  • Interact and coordinate with category management staff on production issues, quality improvements, prototype development, etc.
  • Interact and coordinate with Purchasing staff for vendor changes, new product needs, defective product notification etc.
  • Interact and coordinate with the ETL Engineer on ETL compliance & safety issues.
  • Interact and coordinate with Marketing on product development issues along with packaging and labeling development, catalog and web instructions/directions etc.
  • Attend domestic trade shows as exhibitor and attendee across horticulture and lighting industry.
  • Represent the company and company’s interests via vendor relations meetings. Duties may include pricing increases or decreases, vendor qualification, negotiation of rebates, etc.
  • Train the sales and customer service teams on new product functionality, competitive advantages, features and benefits, etc.
  • Visit customers (U.S. and Canada) on monthly basis for sales presentations, training customer staff, introducing new products, offering brand support at the retail level etc.
  • Engage with growers directly to support our brands, provide technical expertise, answer questions, and place products. Ultimately, transactions would take place through an existing Authorized Dealer network.
  • Engage outside service providers as necessary testing, performance and compliance needs.
  • Coordinate new product announcements.

The perfect person will have:

  • Minimum 8 years of technical lighting experience ideally in a horticulture environment
  • Bachelor’s degree focused in horticulture, agriculture, electrical engineering or related field
  • Proven, excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Strong attention to detail and multi-tasking of multiple products simultaneously
  • Current experience managing domestic and international vendors and optimizing them

Some other nice to have’s:

  • Horticulture, hydroponics, growing experience preferred.
