Hawthorne Gardening Company, a subsidiary of Scotts MiracleGro, is searching for a proven executive sales leader and experienced mentor who will guide and develop our Canadian business to achieve the organization’s sales and profitability objectives.  Focus will be on identifying new growth opportunities and building sustainable customer pipelines while anticipating changing market trends and conditions in our retail, distributor and commercial categories . Our leading industry leading brands include, but are not limited to, Gavita Lighting, Titan Controls, Bluelab, Quest, General Hydroponics, Mother Earth, and Botanicare

In this role you will:

  • Be responsible for identifying and communicating industry insights through appropriate sales and marketing channels.

  • Create and outline the go-to-market strategy for Hawthorne Gardening Canada

  • Build out a five year growth plan to take the business to $150MM annually

  • Optimize financial performance by focusing on high growth and revenue opportunities, while effectively maintaining cost budgets

  • Develop an integrated business plan across categories with  marketing, sales planning, supply chain and finance to drive an annual sales calendar and cadence

  • Manage and coach a high performing sales force and set clear performance expectations and objectives in accordance with company growth and earnings expectations

  • Maintain involvement with customers to stay connected to the market through regular participation in customer meetings and building strategic relationships with key accounts

  • Work across categories to develop the optimal assortment for our Canadian business product portfolio

  • Recommend and prioritize our innovation and launch pipeline for long term success

  • Partner with Customer Service and Supply Chain to align on the most effective service levels and requirements to create a competitive service advantage in the marketplace

The perfect person will have:

  • Bachelor’s Degree or Diploma in Business Administration, Commerce, Marketing or equivalent experience.

  • Minimum 10 years of experience in sales including 3-5 years in high performance sales team management, preferably in CPG, Food and Beverage, Agriculture or Hydroponics/Cannabis industries.

  • Proven skills in building strong internal and external partnerships with key decision makers.  

  • Ability to interpret market dynamics, create sales plans, and execute accordingly

  • Demonstrate an understanding of  customer needs and meet that need with a successful product sale

  • Outstanding communication and time management skills

  • Strong computer skills required including use of Salesforce, MS Office and Google platform 

  • ACMPR license is a plus

Work environment is remote however travel outside your city/province will be required.
