We are looking for a Procurement and Vendor Relationship Manager (Growing Environment Category), to join our Procurement team remotely. This role will require up to 50% travel domestically and internationally when restrictions are lifted. 

The Procurement Manager is responsible for the strategic procurement of the Growing Environment Category, including fans, filters, humidification systems, and heating or cooling units. This experienced self-starter will be responsible for leading a small team, purchasing, sourcing, interfacing cross-functionally, and building out and developing new policies and programs for our rapidly growing business!

What you’ll do in this role:

  • Create and implement comprehensive procurement strategies for Category materials covering market trends, supply assurance, quality improvement, supplier development, sustainability, and financial & supply risk mitigation

  • Effectively manage relationships with suppliers by implementing the Vendor Scorecard process

  • Develop and implement cost savings projects and financial forecasting

  • Negotiate and execute contractual agreements in accordance to established company policies and procedures

  • Develop New vendor relationships and identify new products

  • Ensure compliance-related process and procedures are uncompromised

  • Develop disruption mapping and mitigation strategies

  • Own and maintain all Category supplier relationships

  • Lead supplier selection and development process while working with cross-functional teams like R&D, Marketing, and Quality, etc. to develop innovative products.

  • Ensure suppliers are following Hawthorne sustainability guidelines and implementing required actions

  • Lead evaluation of supplier capabilities, cost structure, risks, and partnership potential to determine supply base

  • Report and maintain vendor rebate policies or promotional discounts

  • Travel approximately 50% (Domestic & International)

What you’ll need to be successful:

  • Bachelor’s degree focused in Supply Chain Management, Packaging, Procurement, Accounting/Finance, Economics, or Business Administration. Master’s degree preferred

  • Minimum 5 years experience in a people leadership position within Procurement, Sourcing, or Purchasing

  • Ability to coordinate and organize numerous material requirements for multiple plants and contract manufacturing facilities simultaneously, while effectively sourcing suppliers and negotiating contracts for targeted materials

  • Ability to effectively navigate in a regulated industry

  • Knowledge of technical language of R&D (and often the vendors) and the business language of the Brands and Purchasing

  • Strong computer skills (SAP R/3, SAP/PLM, MS office programs)

  • Consumer Products or Retail experience a plus
