Job summary:

Gavita and Agrolux are global leading brands in horticultural lighting owned by the Hawthorne Gardening Company Inc, USA. Hawthorne is part of the Scotts Miracle Gro Group and is the largest North American distributor of hydroponic products.

As the International Marketing Manager, you will help to devise and update the strategies for the commercial segment as well as the hydro-retail segment.  You will be responsible for the product portfolio and brands in both the commercial and retail segment. You will therefore be the person responsible for defining the ‘why,’ ‘what’ and ‘when’ of the product offering in a market that is shifting towards LED technology.

Your initial focus will be on the lighting category but this is expected to expand toward other product categories (such as , nutrients, growing equipment) in the future.
You will help drive innovation for both segments by continuously monitoring the market needs of both segments.

You will be part of the International Management Team and will manage the technical specialists and the team responsible for marketing communication.
You will be working from the Gavita office in Aalsmeer.

What we expect from you:

  • Analyze end-user, market and competitor trends from a product perspective and translate this into new initiatives for product innovation.
  • Devise and regularly update strategies for Pro Hort and the Retail-Hydro business.
  • Lead the technical/agronomy team (2fte) to support both the Pro Hort as well as the Hydro Retail business.
  • Oversee Marketing Communications/Brand Management (2fte).
  • Define gaps in our current product portfolio and make concrete proposals to improve the offering to help drive sales and profit.
  • Getting products to the market as planned;
  • Help monitor business results and margins by product and compare with annual plans and propose corrective measures where necessary.
  • Lead the product development process and continuously seek alignment with key internal stakeholders.
  • Liaise closely with the North American category team members for brand portfolio development and harmonization.
  • Work closely with the Technical Department, Finance, Sales and Operations to analyze results and develop tactical plans to meet the growth objectives.
  • Flexibility and willingness to travel; International travel will be c. 20% of your time. 

Requirements

  • Undergraduate or Master’s degree, ideally a combination of a technical undergraduate degree (in electronics or in greenhouse production) and a further specialization in marketing.
  • Fluent Dutch and English language skills.
  • At least 5 years of experience preferably in greenhouse Horticulture.
  • International experience in a multinational, preferably an American company.
  • Excellent communication and people skills.
