We are looking for a Director of International Operations who will join our Hawthorne team (a subsidiary of Scotts Miracle-Gro) working remotely (US based only).

This position is responsible for developing and executing long-term operating strategies for our Coco Coir Production facilities located in India and Sri Lanka (2 owned/9 partner facilities) to support both NA Consumer and Hawthorne businesses.  This leader will oversee production operations to deliver key safety, quality, volume, and financial targets, and will develop CapEx, logistics and raw material procurement strategies to support the  growing demands of our business.  This position will report to the Vice President of Global Procurement.

What you’ll do in this role:

  • Direct ownership of the P&L for the coir operations

  • Partner with HGC and US Consumer purchasing/planning teams to understand annual coir requirements;  build production plans that meet SMG/HGC volumes/ and timing. 

  • Build and manage 3 year capital expansion plan to increase production capacity and throughput in India and Sri Lanka and potentially identify/develop production in a new country (Indonesia/Philippines)

  • Directly lead a team of four, with a dotted line responsibility for regional quality, safety, and finance.

  • Develop and actively manage affiliate relationships and procurement of raw materials (such as coconut fiber/husks)

  • Provide guidance to Plant Managers on the development and implementation of all aspects of World Class Operations - Safety, People, Quality, Delivery, Cost.

  • Develop operating budgets, capital plans, cash flow budgets that support the company initiatives.

  • Lead the development of long term strategy plans within the region to improve in all facets of the supply chain: freight, logistics, warehousing; streamlining operations for greater agility, lower cost.

  • Improve service through increased predictability and enhanced reporting

  • Ensure company safety programs are in place and adhered to at facilities within the region.

  • Work closely with the planning and procurement teams to insure excellent service to our US based customers and US based plants

  • Develop and employ performance reporting and tracking systems for areas such as safety, quality, financials, and customer service.

What you’ll need to be successful:

  • Bachelor’s degree focused in Engineering (highly preferred), Supply Chain, Manufacturing or other related field. Master’s degree highly preferred.

  • Minimum 7-10 years overall manufacturing experience with focus on budgetary, capital planning, P&L responsibilities, continuous improvement, purchasing, distribution, associate development, and safety.

  • Proven experience as Director of Operations or equivalent position

  • Excellent organizational and leadership abilities

  • Outstanding communication and people skills

  • Working knowledge of data analysis and performance/operation metrics

  • Ability to effectively manage a high caliber team of individuals in a fast-paced and seasonal environment.

  • Ability to travel up to 50% (or more at times) of the time to India and Sri Lanka to visit the coco fiber production facilities and key partners

  • Ability to communicate in Hindi/Singhalese preferred.
