We’re looking for an Engineering Intern to support our Hawthorne Design Team within the Professional Technical Services Department on projects relating to development of CAD and computational tools for indoor cultivation facilities and greenhouses.

Our Intern program is designed to cultivate the professional growth of students through a dynamic work environment. Over the course of several months you will work on meaningful projects and have opportunities to learn from industry leaders. We are committed to your development but will also rely on you to bring new knowledge, new ideas and innovation into our organization!

In this role you will:

  • Gather relevant documentation of product parts and specs that are being used in the controlled environment agriculture (CEA) industry

  • Partner with the Design Team and Technical Services to prioritize integration of 3D CAD files into customer facing material

  • Create CAD models from product drawings using Solidworks or other 3D modeling software

  • Develop and implement widgets to support database creation 

Depending on interest, additional opportunities include:

  • Assist in building out category-specific guidelines for grow room design to support sales 

  • Work with design engineers to track energy usage in the growing environment from HGC’s product offering to increase design team expertise and integrate data-driven decisions into customer recommendations

  • Visit cultivation facilities to gain a hands-on understanding of the physical processes at work in the growing environment

What you’ll need to be successful:

  • Have prior experience in 3D modeling using software such as Solidworks

  • Programming experience within Microsoft applications (VBA, macros, etc) (preferred but not required)

  • Be enrolled in an accredited college, university or trade school

  • Possess strong analytical and leadership skills

  •  Demonstrate strong written and verbal communication

  • Prioritize collaboration and problem solving

  • Manage multiple tasks and is detailed-oriented

  • Have prior internship experience (preferred but not required)
