We are looking for a Category Manager who will join our Hawthorne team in Canada.

This is a unique opportunity to “own” and drive a product portfolio on a team passionate about helping form the future of the Hydroponic Industry. If you have the desire to be part of the future of growing and possess both an innate entrepreneurial spirit and ability to manage products at varying points in their lifecycle we want to hear from you. 

What you’ll do in this role:

You will help build & drive the execution of the Canadian regional business plan including portfolio management, new product development, portfolio analysis (sales performance, marketplace/share, forecast/inventory, SKU rationalization, etc.), marketing plan creation and execution, pricing & promotional programs, and sales training & support and overall ownership of the P&L. Simply put you will be an “owner” in all areas that directly impact the ability to meet the needs of all company stakeholders - working alongside cross-functional partners in Sales, Supply Chain, Finance, etc.  

What you’ll need to be successful:

  • You understand what it means and what it takes to be a successful “General Manager” of a business.

  • Functional experience in business strategy / planning, portfolio management, P&L management including pricing / promotions / retailer programs, and marketing planning.

  • Ability to thrive in a very fast-paced environment, resilient to adversity and adapting with flexibility.  

  • Thoughtful risk-taker who is able to make quick decisions, assess results and redirect as necessary

  • Desire to balance both B2B and B2C go-to-market strategies.

  • Ability to manage a diverse portfolio of products/brands - ranging from durable/hard goods to consumable products.

  • Ability to lead, direct and support cross-functional stakeholders.

  • A natural interest in identifying customer needs and developing plans to reach target audience- You understand what it takes to identify, engage and build loyalty

  • Entrepreneurial minded- ready to jump into fast-paced, rapidly evolving Hydroponic space

  • The thrill of building something new excites you!

  • Exceptional written, verbal and presentation skills with the ability to synthesize disparate information to create recommendations  

  • 5+ years of experience with business management (brand management, category management), strategy development / execution, and creative problem solving.

  • Bachelor's degree in business, MBA preferred
